Economist specialized in macroprudential matters (2-year fixed term contract) (m/f)
Mission
The CSSF is seeking to recruit an economist specialising in macro-prudential and financial stability to join the « Macroprudential Division I » of the « Macroprudential Policy and Financial Risks » (MPFR) department. The position is offered on a two-year fixed-term contract.
The division is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and monitoring activities and risks arising from the Luxembourg financial sector that may affect financial stability.
The successful candidate will contribute to the identification, assessment and monitoring of systemic risks, with a particular focus on the Luxembourg banking and real estate sectors. The position also involves contributing to the design and implementation of macroprudential as well as providing high-quality analytical support to the national macroprudential authority and senior management.
Role & responsibilities
- Assess and monitor systemic risks, conduct in-depth analyses and prepare policy-related notes, briefingsand presentations for senior management and the national macroprudential authority
- Analyse macroeconomic and financial developments, with a particular focus on commercial and residential real estate markets and their implications for financial stability
- Contribute to the development and implementation of macroprudential policy, including the assessment of macroprudential measures and their potential impact on the financial system, as well as the preparation of impact analyses
- Contribute to requests and questionnaires from the European Central Bank (ECB), the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the area of financial stability
- Participate in ECB and ESRB working groups and other international fora, contributing to analytical work, policy discussions and the preparation of reports on financial stability, real estate vulnerabilities and macroprudential policy
- Develop and automate analytical processes and tools to improve the efficiency, quality and reproducibility of the division's work, using programming and data-analysis tools such as Python, R, Stata, VBA and Power BI
Your profile
- Master’s degree or PhD in economics, finance, econometrics or a related field, preferably with a strong focus on macroeconomics, financial economics or financial stability
- Strong knowledge of quantitative and statistical methods, with the ability to apply them to financial stability and macroprudential policy questions
- Knowledge of the current banking regulatory framework, in particular the Capital Requirements Directive (CRD) and the Capital Requirements Regulation (CRR) constitute an advantage
- At least three years of relevant professional experience, ideally in financial stability, macroprudential policy, banking supervision or another relevant area within the financial sector or public authorities
- Excellent written and spoken command of French and English; knowledge of German and Luxembourgish is a real asset
- Excellent writing, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to present complex topics clearly to both technical and senior audiences
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and international teams, with strong interpersonal and organisational skills
- Availability for missions abroad
Indemnity Group
The position is classified in salary group A1 in accordance with the remuneration scheme applicable to Luxembourg State employees.
The initial career classification starts from step 3, at grade 12 for recruitment in salary group A1.
